How L'Entrepôt de la Réno reached 280,019 organic clicks a year

Ten and a half million impressions and 280,019 clicks in twelve months. This is what happens when a large retail catalogue is made properly crawlable rather than buried behind faceted navigation.

01 — The challenge

A large catalogue is an SEO opportunity and an SEO liability.

L'Entrepôt de la Réno is a Quebec building-materials and renovation retailer selling direct, with multiple locations and a deep product catalogue — flooring, tile, fixtures, finishes.

Retail catalogues at this scale fail in predictable ways. Faceted navigation multiplies near-identical URLs; product pages inherit supplier copy that hundreds of other retailers also publish; category pages that should rank for the money terms get outranked by the brands they stock. The traffic ceiling is set by structure, not effort.

“We had thousands of products online and almost none of them brought anybody in. The catalogue was there — Google just was not showing it to the people looking for exactly what we stock.”

Illustrative quote — written by Web Tonic to put the results above in an owner’s words. It is not a statement provided by the client.

So the work went into structure and category depth before it went into content volume.

02 — Our approach

Fix the crawl, then earn the category terms.

Technical work first: crawl efficiency, index hygiene across faceted and near-duplicate URLs, and internal linking so category depth actually reaches the products it should.

Then category pages were treated as landing pages rather than filters — given genuine buying-guide substance so they could compete for the terms homeowners actually type, instead of ceding them to the manufacturers.

Reporting note: every figure here is Google Search Console clicks and impressions. This property's GA4 and business-profile numbers are all-channel and would flatter an organic claim, so they are excluded — as is the business-profile series, which shows a jump implausible enough that we will not publish it.

03 — What we did

Crawl and index hygiene, then category pages worth ranking.

Structure first. The content only pays once Google can reach it.

Crawl & index hygiene

Stopped faceted navigation from diluting the catalogue

Near-duplicate URL patterns were controlled so crawl budget reached real product and category pages instead of filter permutations.

Recreated Search Console coverage view

Internal linking

Made category depth reachable

Links were rebuilt so category authority flows to the products beneath it, which is where the impression growth to 10.68M came from.

Impressions by month

Category pages as landing pages

Gave filters real buying-guide substance

Category pages competing for money terms need to be worth ranking, not just a grid of thumbnails with supplier copy.

Clicks by month

Honest measurement

Search Console only, and one series withheld

GA4 sessions here are all-channel and excluded. The business-profile series shows an implausible jump and is not published at all.

Matched-month comparison

04 — The results

Twelve matched months: +151% organic clicks, +152% impressions.

Period covered: Aug 1, 2025 – Jul 31, 2026 vs Aug 1, 2024 – Jul 31, 2025. Matched months only, so seasonality cannot flatter the comparison.
