How JDM Engine Direct turned $97k of search spend into $1.42M
A high-ticket engine importer with a young conversion history. Rather than dress that up as a full-year comparison, here is what the account actually did: $97,245 in, $1,421,603 tracked back.

01 — The challenge
Real revenue, but a measurement history too young to compare.
JDM Engine Direct sells imported Japanese engines nationally — a category where one sale can be worth thousands and buyers spend weeks comparing suppliers. The account was performing, but its verified conversion action only began recording in the middle of the prior year.
That creates a temptation we refused: comparing a full twelve months of tracked data against four months of it produces a spectacular, meaningless number. So the story is told two honest ways instead — absolute performance over the last twelve months, and growth only across the months both years actually cover.
“Every quote I ever got promised me a percentage increase on something. What I wanted was a straight answer to one question: for every dollar I put in, how many come back.”
Illustrative quote — written by Web Tonic to put the results above in an owner’s words. It is not a statement provided by the client.
Fair question, and it is why this page leads with a ratio instead of a growth rate. The conversion action here only started recording partway through the comparison period, so a twelve-month year-over-year claim would be an artifact rather than a result.
02 — Our approach
Harvest high-intent demand, then widen it carefully.
The core of the account is intent harvesting done properly: specific engine and fitment searches, structured so that each family of demand can be bid on its own economics rather than averaged into one pot.
Because order values are large and irregular, bidding was managed toward revenue and return rather than cost per conversion, with targets reviewed monthly against actual delivered spend so the account was never left chasing a target it could not reach at volume.
Expansion was deliberate and slow. New coverage was added only where search-term evidence showed real buyer language, and pruned aggressively when it produced clicks without revenue — which in a $3,000-order category is the only expensive mistake available.
03 — What we did
Structure by demand family, bid to revenue, expand on evidence.
Simple account, disciplined execution, honest reporting window.
Honest comparison window
Refused the flattering number
The conversion action started recording in April 2025, so a twelve-month year-over-year figure would compare full tracking against partial tracking. We report absolutes for the year and growth only across the four months both years share.

Demand-family structure
Each type of engine demand bid on its own economics
Specific engine and fitment searches were separated so that a family with a $4,000 order value was never averaged into the same bidding pot as a low-value part query.

Bidding to revenue
Targets reviewed against delivered spend, monthly
With large, irregular order values, cost per conversion is noise. Bidding was managed toward revenue and return, with targets adjusted monthly so the account was never chasing an unreachable goal at volume.

Evidence-based expansion
Added coverage slowly, pruned it fast
New keyword coverage was justified by search-term evidence and cut quickly when it produced clicks without revenue. In a high-ticket category that is the only genuinely expensive mistake.
