01 — The challenge
A brand-new site competing with national tax authorities.
Tax and accounting is one of the most contested organic categories in the United States. National brands and software companies dominate the informational searches, and local firms are pushed to compete on geography and specificity.
K&R launched with essentially no organic footprint. Everything — indexation, topical coverage, local relevance — had to be built, and the payoff had to arrive before the next filing season for the investment to make sense.
“Paid search gets me clients this season. I wanted something that means I am not starting from scratch again next January.”
Illustrative quote — written by Web Tonic to put the results above in an owner’s words. It is not a statement provided by the client.
That is the correct way to buy SEO in a seasonal profession: not as a cheaper substitute for ads, but as the asset that makes each subsequent season start from a higher base.
02 — Our approach
Win the specific searches the national brands ignore.
Rather than fight for broad informational tax terms, the program targeted searches with local and situational specificity: state-level rules, business-entity questions, and the concrete problems Arizona filers actually have. Those queries are lower volume and dramatically higher intent.
Accuracy was treated as a ranking factor and a liability control at once. Tax content that is out of date is worse than no content, so every figure and rule was verified against primary sources before publication and dated so it could be maintained.
Foundations were built in parallel: crawlable architecture, clean internal linking from service pages to supporting content, correct local markup, and indexation monitored weekly — because in the first months of a new site, indexation is the growth rate.
03 — What we did
Specificity over volume, accuracy as a feature, foundations in parallel.
Eight months of compounding from an empty starting line.
Specificity over volume
Targeted what the national brands ignore
State-level rules, entity questions and the concrete situations Arizona filers face. Lower volume, far higher intent, and winnable by a local firm in months rather than years.

Accuracy as a feature
Every figure verified against primary sources
Out-of-date tax content is worse than none at all. Rules and figures were verified against primary sources and dated, so the library can be maintained rather than quietly rotting.

Indexation is the growth rate for a new site
Crawlable architecture, internal linking from service pages into supporting content, correct local markup, and weekly indexation monitoring during the months when that is the whole battle.

SEO built on paid search evidence
The live paid account showed which queries produce actual client calls, and that evidence ordered the content roadmap instead of a keyword tool's volume estimates.
