How a Montreal painting contractor grew its audience more than fivefold

A small local contractor going from roughly forty visits a month to roughly two hundred — with one unusual burst in the middle that we name rather than hide.

Timeline

12 matched months — 2025-2026

01 — The challenge

A trade where every competitor claims to be number one.

Peintres Montréal handles interior, exterior, residential and commercial painting across Montreal and Laval, competing in a category with almost no differentiation on the search results page.

At roughly forty to sixty sessions a month, the site was too small to generate enough signal to improve on. Volume had to come first before anything about conversion could be judged.

“Every painter in Montreal says they are the best painter in Montreal. The customer cannot tell us apart, so they pick whoever they find first and answers the phone.”

So the first objective was simply enough audience to work with.

No items found.

02 — Our approach

Interior, exterior, residential, commercial — four demands, not one.

The four service lines were separated in the content rather than collapsed into a single painting page, and Montreal and Laval were treated as distinct markets instead of one metro blur.

All-channel GA4 sessions grew from 529 to 2,862 across twelve matched months and new users from 472 to 1,823. Recent months settle around 180 to 210 sessions against a prior baseline near 40 to 60 — roughly four times the steady-state traffic.

October and November 2025 ran unusually hot at 283 and 889 sessions, so the sustained four-times figure is the one to plan against. These are all-channel sessions.

03 — What we did

Service-line separation, two markets, sustained baseline.

Enough audience to have a conversion problem worth solving.

Four demands, not one

Interior, exterior, residential, commercial

A homeowner repainting a hallway and a landlord repainting eight units are separate searches with separate budgets.

Sessions by month

Two markets, not one metro

Montreal and Laval treated separately

Collapsing them into a single service area concedes both to competitors who did the work of being local in each.

Matched-month comparison

The spike, named

Oct and Nov 2025 ran 283 and 889 sessions

Two months sit far above the rest and inflate the headline. They are identified here so the percentage is not read as a steady state.

Growth trajectory

The number to trust

About four times the sustained baseline

Recent months run 180 to 210 sessions against a prior 40 to 60. That is the durable improvement, and it is smaller than 441%.

All-channel session mix

04 — The results

Twelve matched months: sessions up 441%, about four times sustained.

Period covered: Aug 1, 2025 – Jul 31, 2026 vs Aug 1, 2024 – Jul 31, 2025. Matched months only, so seasonality cannot flatter the comparison.

Source: Google Search Console and GA4 via AgencyAnalytics, client property (ID withheld) — GA4 sessions and new users only, all-channel and labelled as such; the Oct–Nov 2025 spike is identified on the page rather than smoothed away. Organic only; paid traffic excluded.
