Pool Builder PPC

Pay for pool leads that sign.

that sign

Clicks are easy to buy and pool contractor leads are not. We run paid search and paid social for pool builders against signed contracts, not form fills. A qualified inground build inquiry costs $80 to $300, so the difference between a good and a bad campaign is a season of work.

FOUR WORKSTREAMS

Four workstreams behind pool builder PPC that pays for itself.

pays for itself

Search campaigns built around project value, paid social that sells the backyard before anyone searches, landing pages that convert the click you paid for, and lead scoring that tells you which spend produced real contracts.

Lead quality and measurement

Lead quality and measurement

The auction rewards structure, not budget.

Pool advertising has become one of the fastest-inflating auctions in home services. The average pool click hit $5.81 in 2025, up 46% year over year across 3,211 US campaigns, and construction keywords clear $7.50 to $11.00 a click. Broad campaigns burn that budget on maintenance and chemical searches within a week.

We separate demand instead: new construction, remodel and replaster, spa work, and service, each with its own budget, its own bids and its own definition of a good lead. Negative keyword lists are written before launch, geography is drawn on crew drive times, and bidding is fed by which pool leads actually sign rather than by raw pay per click volume.

  • New build, remodel and service demand split apart
  • Negative keyword lists written before a dollar is spent
  • Geography drawn on drive time, not zip code guesses

Demand you create before anyone searches.

Search catches the homeowner who has already decided. Paid social is where a swimming pool becomes an idea in the first place, and it is materially cheaper: well-structured pool campaigns on Meta run $80 to $150 per lead at a $12 to $22 CPM for homeowner audiences.

We build the audience from your own customer list and the neighbourhoods where your finished projects already sit, then run finished-build video, before-and-after content and financing offers against it. A $1,500 to $3,500 monthly budget typically produces 15 to 25 pool leads, and it fills the pipeline in the months search volume is asleep.

  • Audiences built from your own customer and project data
  • Finished-build video and before-after content as the workhorse
  • Financing and seasonal offers tested as separate angles
  • Lead forms qualified so the sales team is not chasing browsers

Most pool marketing waste happens after the click.

You can win the auction and still lose the customer. The median contractor website converts 2% to 4% of visitors while the top 6% reach 8% to 12% on the same traffic, and the pool category averages 3.2% with 5.8% on the best landing pages. Doubling that is cheaper than doubling the budget.

Every campaign gets pages built for it by our landing page team: real project galleries, honest price ranges, financing, a short form and a phone number that works on a phone. We test the offer and the proof, not the button colour, and the winners go back into your website content.

  • A page per campaign, not one generic contact form

Counting leads is not the same as counting builds.

Pool sales cycles are long and lumpy. Construction leads close at 8% to 12% while service leads close at 35% to 40%, so a campaign that looks cheap on cost per lead can be the expensive one once contracts are counted.

We install call tracking and form attribution first, then feed your sales outcomes back into the platforms so bidding optimizes toward the potential customers who actually sign. Our conversion tracking and analytics teams keep one view of spend, leads and revenue, reviewed with you in writing every month.

  • Call tracking and form attribution live before launch
  • Sales outcomes pushed back into the ad platforms

01 — The challenge

The pool auction got expensive while nobody was watching.

“We were paying for a hundred leads a month and closing four builds.”

The waste is rarely the budget. It is broad match dragging pool cleaning and chemical searches into a construction campaign, one generic contact page behind every ad, and a 3.2% average website conversion rate nobody has looked at in two seasons.

02 — Our approach

Split the demand, then buy only what signs.

We start by separating the kinds of pool work you sell. New construction, remodel and replaster, spa and outdoor living, and service each get their own campaign, budget and lead definition, because a builder inquiry and a filter repair have nothing in common except the word pool.

Then we build the measurement before the media. Call tracking, form attribution and your sales outcomes are connected in week one, so within a month the bidding is chasing signed contracts rather than cheap clicks. Landing pages are built per campaign with real project galleries, honest ranges and financing, because the conversion rate is usually the cheapest thing to fix.

Paid social runs alongside search to create demand in the months before the season, using video of your own finished builds. Every month you get a written read of spend, leads and contracts by service and town from our analytics team, and the accounts, the pages and the data stay in your name throughout.

03 — What we did

Structure fixed, pages built, contracts counted.

A baseline you can check, campaigns rebuilt around project value, pages that convert the traffic, and reporting that ends at signed pool contracts.

FAQ

Questions pool companies ask us

What does a pool builder PPC campaign cost to run?

Budget is set from your economics, not a rate card. We start from your average contract value and close rate, then work backwards through the benchmark numbers: $80 to $300 for a qualified new-build inquiry and $50 to $150 for a remodel lead. That gives a monthly media figure that buys a readable number of pool leads instead of a handful, and we will tell you if your market is too small for the budget you had in mind.

How quickly will we see pool leads?

Within days on search, because the demand already exists. The honest answer on judging it is longer: pool construction inquiries take weeks to become consultations and months to become contracts, so the first month is about lead volume and quality signals, and the second and third are where cost per signed build becomes a number you can trust. We show both from the start.

Should we run Google Ads or Meta ads?

Both, for different jobs. Search captures homeowners already looking for a pool contractor; Meta creates the demand at $80 to $150 per lead with a $12 to $22 CPM and keeps the pipeline moving in the off-season. Most of our pool clients run search year-round and push paid social hard in the three months before their local buying season starts.

Our leads are mostly tyre-kickers. Can that be fixed?

Yes, and it is usually the first thing we fix. Broad match, a generic contact form and no budget qualification will fill your inbox with people pricing an above-ground kit. We tighten match types and negatives, add qualification to the form, and feed your closed contracts back into bidding, so the platforms learn what a real customer looks like. Construction leads close at 8% to 12%, so quality is the whole game.

Do we need new landing pages?

Almost always, and it is the cheapest improvement available. The top 6% of contractor sites convert 8% to 12% against a 2% to 4% median, which means the same budget can produce three times the pool leads without touching the auction. Our landing page team builds one per campaign, and you keep them whether or not we keep managing the media.

How do you measure success?

Cost per signed build, with cost per qualified lead underneath it. Anything above that in the report is diagnostic. We wire call tracking, form attribution and your sales outcomes together before launch with our conversion tracking team, so the monthly review is a business conversation rather than a screenshot of impressions.

Who owns the ad accounts and the data?

You do, from the first week. We work inside your Google Ads and Meta accounts, your analytics and your tracking numbers, and every landing page and creative asset we produce is yours to keep. If you ever leave, nothing switches off and nothing has to be rebuilt - a policy we would rather explain up front than be asked about later.

How much does seasonality change the plan?

A great deal, and it is planned around rather than endured. Search demand for pool construction peaks months before the swimming season and collapses afterwards, at different times in Phoenix and in Chicago. We front-load budget into the build-up, shift weight to remodel and service campaigns in the quiet months, and use paid social to create demand while search volume is asleep.

Can PPC work alongside our SEO?

It should. The search terms that convert in the ad account tell our pool builder SEO team exactly which pages to build, and the organic pages that earn rankings reduce what you need to buy. We run one keyword strategy across both, share the same reporting, and gradually move the cheaper demand from paid to organic while the budget concentrates on the high-value construction terms.

What creative works best for pool advertising?

Your own finished projects, filmed plainly. Drone passes over a completed backyard, a homeowner talking about the build, and before-and-after sequences beat any stock imagery of a turquoise rectangle. Our pool builder creative team produces the ad content from your real projects, and the winning angles get reused across social, the website and your sales presentations.

How big does our market need to be?

Smaller than most people assume. Around 125,000 businesses serve a $62 billion US pool, hot tub and spa market, and demand is spread across suburban markets rather than concentrated in a few cities. If your crews can profitably reach a metro area, there is normally enough search volume to build a campaign - and if there genuinely is not, we will say so before you spend.

Do you work with pool service companies as well as builders?

Yes, and the two behave very differently in the auction. Service demand is cheaper, closes faster and recurs - service leads convert at 35% to 40% and contracts retain at 78% - while construction is expensive and lumpy. Where a company does both we run them as separate campaigns with separate targets, because averaging them together hides which half is working.

What happens in the first 30 days?

Week one is measurement and audit: tracking wired up, the last year of spend read against closed contracts. Weeks two to four are the rebuild - campaigns split by the work you sell, negatives written, geography drawn on drive times, and the first landing pages live. You get a written baseline at the start and a written review at the end, so month two starts from evidence.

How is this different from what our current agency does?

Mostly in what we optimize toward. A lot of pool marketing is reported on clicks and cost per lead, which looks efficient against a $66.69 all-industry average cost per lead while the contract count stays flat. We connect the sales outcome to the campaign and let the platforms bid on that, which changes what gets paused, what gets scaled and what the monthly conversation is about.

Can you take over an existing account without starting again?

Usually yes, and we prefer it. A mature pool account carries conversion history worth keeping, so we restructure in stages rather than burning it down: measurement first, then the campaign split, then bidding. Where an account is genuinely beyond repair we will explain why before rebuilding, and we will keep the old campaigns running until the new ones are proven.

What do you need from us to get started?

Access to your ad accounts and analytics, your average contract value and close rate, a list of the pool services you want more of, and photography or video from finished builds. Half an hour with whoever runs the consultations is worth more than any brief, because the objections they hear every week become the copy on the landing pages.

Let's read what your spend actually bought.
