Pool Builder Creative

Make the backyard impossible to scroll past.

impossible to scroll past

Every pool company shows a blue rectangle at midday. We make creative for pool builders that shows the design, the job and the family who uses it. Video ads run 30% to 60% cheaper per lead than static images for contractors, and your own finished pools are the footage.

The best pool footage is already in your schedule.

A custom pool takes weeks to build, and almost none of it gets filmed. That is the raw material: excavation, the steel cage, gunite day, tile going in, the first fill, the family walking out at dusk. Shot properly, that sequence explains your design and build process better than any brochure.

We plan capture around builds you already have booked, so the work costs a day on site rather than a studio budget. Drone passes, handheld detail, the owner talking to camera - owner-on-camera video runs 25% to 40% lower cost per lead than agency-produced video in home services.

  • Capture planned around builds already in your calendar
  • Excavation to first swim covered as one story
  • Drone, handheld and owner-to-camera in a single day
  • Everything delivered in full resolution and yours to keep

Test the promise, not the filter.

Creative wins or loses on the angle. Backyard escape, finance the dream now, the honest build timeline, why gunite outlasts the cheap quote, the spa that gets used all winter - each is a different buyer, and only testing tells you which one your market responds to.

We run them as a batch rather than one at a time, because the hit rate is modest by design: the pool category averages an 8% winning-ad rate, in a 5% to 12% range. Winners get iterated into variations; losers get retired quickly, with our creative strategy team reading the results each cycle.

  • Angles written as promises, then tested in batches
  • Hooks judged on the first three seconds of retention
  • Winners iterated, losers retired without ceremony
  • Results read against leads, not likes

One shoot day, twenty finished assets.

The same afternoon on site should produce vertical video for social feeds, a longer design and build film for the website, before-and-after stills for the project library, and static cutdowns for search and display. Most pool companies shoot once and publish twice.

We cut for each placement deliberately, with captions built for sound-off viewing and thumbnails chosen rather than defaulted. The assets feed your paid campaigns, your website galleries and your sales presentations, which is where the budget actually earns out - structured pool campaigns on Meta produce leads at $80 to $150 when the material is strong.

  • Vertical, square and landscape cut from one shoot
  • Captions written for sound-off viewing
  • Before-and-after stills sized for the project library

The same look from the ad to the consultation.

Creative that stops at the ad wastes half its value. The homeowner who watched your build film then lands on a website with 2019 photography and a proposal template from a printer shop, and the credibility leaks away - pool websites already bounce 52.4% of visitors.

So we extend the work into the places the sale is actually made: gallery imagery for the website our web design team builds, proposal and design presentation templates, showroom and home show graphics, and a simple set of brand rules your team can apply without asking anyone.

01 — The challenge

Every pool ad looks like every other pool ad.

Scroll any homeowner feed in spring and you will see the same turquoise rectangle, the same stock family, the same offer. Attention is the scarce thing, and it is getting expensive: the average pool click rose 46% in a year to $5.81, the steepest climb of any home service category tracked.

“We built forty pools last year and filmed none of them.”

Meanwhile the proof sits unused on job sites: roughly 125,000 businesses serve a $62 billion pool, hot tub and spa market, and the ones winning attention are simply the ones filming the work.

02 — Our approach

Film the build, test the promise, reuse everything.

We start with what you already have booked. A build in your calendar becomes a capture plan - excavation, steel, gunite, tile, first fill, the family at dusk - so the material comes from your real design and build process rather than from a studio set nobody believes.

Then we write the angles as promises and test them in batches, because in this category only a handful of concepts win and the only way to find them is to run several. Hooks are judged on the first three seconds, winners get iterated into variations, and everything is read against leads rather than against likes.

Finally we make the work go further than the campaign. One shoot is cut into vertical, square and landscape versions, before-and-after stills for the project gallery, and sales collateral for consultations. Performance is reviewed each cycle with our analytics team, and every asset is delivered in full resolution and stays yours.

03 — What we did

FAQ

Questions pool builders ask us

Why does video matter so much for pool marketing?

Because a swimming pool is bought on imagination and confirmed on proof, and video carries both. The numbers back it: video ads produce leads at 30% to 60% lower cost than static images for contractors, and owner-on-camera video is another 25% to 40% cheaper again. Stills still matter for the gallery and for search placements, but video is what stops the scroll.

Do you film on our build sites or in a studio?

On your sites, always. A studio cannot show gunite day, the steel cage, the tile going in or the moment a family walks out to a finished backyard - and those are the things that make your work credible. We plan around builds already in your calendar, so it costs a day of coordination rather than a production budget, and we work around your crews rather than stopping them.

How many creative concepts do you test?

Several at once, deliberately. The pool category averages an 8% winning-ad rate, in a 5% to 12% range, which means testing one idea a quarter is a slow way to find nothing. We run a batch of angles together, read them on retention and cost per lead, then iterate the winners into variations. It is a cheaper route to a winner than polishing a single concept.

What angles actually work for pool builders?

In our experience: the backyard-as-escape story, honest financing, the job timeline told without gloss, the durability argument against a cheaper quote, and the spa or heating angle that extends the season. Which of those wins depends entirely on your market and your price point, which is why we test rather than assert. The angle plan is written from your designs and the objections your sales team hears every week.

Can you work with the footage we already have?

Yes, and we look at it first. Most pool companies have far more usable material than they realise, scattered across phones, drone cards and old drives. We audit it, cut what is usable into a first set of ads, and only then decide what genuinely needs shooting. That usually gets a campaign live weeks earlier and keeps the first invoice smaller.

How does creative connect to our advertising?

Directly. The assets are built for the campaigns our pool builder PPC team runs, in the formats those placements need, and the performance data comes back to the material plan each cycle. That loop is the point: what wins in market decides what we shoot next, rather than a creative brief written once and never revisited.

Who owns the footage and the edits?

You do, in full resolution, including the raw material we did not use. Nothing is held back and nothing stops working if you stop working with us. Pool builders build a library over years, and it should be an asset on your balance sheet rather than something parked in an agency account you cannot access.

How often should we refresh our creative?

More often than most builders do, but less often than agencies sell. In a seasonal category the practical rhythm is a fresh batch before the buying season, a mid-season refresh when frequency climbs, and a quiet-months set built around remodel and service work. If a concept is still producing leads efficiently we leave it alone and say so, rather than invoicing for a rebuild.

Do we need drone footage?

For custom pool work, it is the single most useful shot you can own. A slow overhead pass showing the pool in the context of the whole backyard is what makes the design legible - ground-level photography flattens exactly the thing you designed. We fly it legally, keep it short in the edit, and cut vertical versions so it works on a phone.

Will this work for a smaller pool company?

It usually works better, because a smaller builder can put a real person on camera and a national brand cannot. A $1,500 to $3,500 monthly media budget typically produces 15 to 25 pool leads when the creative carries it, and one signed build covers the year. We scope the capture to match, and we will tell you when a single shoot day is all you need.

How do you measure whether creative is working?

Three numbers, in order: how many people watch past the first three seconds, what a lead costs from that concept, and how many of those leads become consultations. Likes and shares are read but never reported as results. With construction leads closing at 8% to 12%, quality has to be tracked to the sale, which our tracking team sets up before the first ad runs.

Can you help with our website imagery too?

Yes, and it is the cheapest extension of a shoot day. The same visit produces hero imagery and before-and-after sets for the project gallery our web design team builds, which keeps the site looking like the ads that brought people there. Consistency between the ad and the landing page is one of the quiet reasons campaigns convert.

What about social content between campaigns?

The same capture days feed it. A shoot day yields far more material than a campaign needs, and the surplus becomes the organic posts that keep a pool company visible through the season - where the category averages 1.85% Instagram engagement. We hand it over scheduled and captioned so your team is never staring at an empty calendar.

How is this different from hiring a videographer?

A videographer delivers a beautiful film. We deliver a tested set of assets attached to a media plan, cut for every placement, with the performance read back into what gets shot next. Both have their place, and if a single brand film is genuinely what you need we will say so - but a batch of angles built to be tested is what moves cost per lead.

What do you need from us to get started?

Your build schedule for the next couple of months, whatever footage and photography already exists, and half an hour with the person who runs design consultations. Their answers to the objections they hear weekly become the angles we test, and access to one live build site gives us everything else.

Let's film the next pool you build.
