From Script to Screen: 21 Motion Graphics Agencies for 2026 — Web Tonic blog thumbnail

How we vet every listicle

Every agency featured on Web Tonic passes our 84-point editorial review before a single listicle goes live. This is how we vet each pick:

Verified client outcomes: We require real case studies with measurable KPIs — revenue, ROAS, CPA, retention — tied to the exact category being ranked. No cherry-picked wins, no unverifiable numbers.

Independent reputation: We cross-check Clutch, Google, G2, and Trustpilot ratings, and screen for review-bombing or suspicious patterns. Only operators with a consistent, verifiable track record make the cut.

Beyond that, every listing goes through a quarterly re-audit. We check 84 criteria across 6 pillars to make sure it still holds up — here are some of the checks we run:

Case study recency
Entity age & registration
LinkedIn footprint
Portfolio authenticity
Client reference checks
Review authenticity
Ad account ban history
Editorial response time
Pricing transparency
Award verification

A motion graphics and animation agency turns a script, brand system or product concept into moving content. The work spans 2D and 3D explainers, brand motion systems and animated logos, social and paid-ad creative, product and UI animation, title sequences and broadcast graphics. Teams run projects from style frames to final delivery, and pricing is almost always project-based rather than retained.

We compared 21 studios on what a buyer can check before committing: disclosed pricing, named clients, published offices, the disciplines genuinely in-house and what each reel actually proves. Only 2 of the 20 external studios publish a starting price and 3 name clients publicly.

Which motion graphics studio fits your project?

Scope sets the shortlist. BUCK, Psyop, ManvsMachine and Passion Pictures handle high-craft brand films and broadcast work; Trollbäck+Company and Vucko build motion identity systems; Yum Yum Videos, Wyzowl, Demo Duck and Explainify produce SaaS explainers at predictable prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an animated video actually cost?

Published survey data puts the average quote for a professionally produced animated explainer at about USD $8,457 with outliers removed, a median near $5,400, and a full range from $600 to $250,000. Typical agency quotes for a 60 to 90 second explainer land between roughly $6,000 and $62,000 depending on style and complexity. The variables that move the number are animation style, whether characters need rigging, 2D versus 3D, script and voice-over scope, and how many revision rounds are included before extras start billing.

Why do quotes for the same brief differ so much?

Because studios are quoting different amounts of thinking. A production house given a finished script and locked storyboard is pricing execution; a studio that includes strategy, scripting, style exploration and multiple design directions is pricing invention as well. Team location, whether 3D and sound are in-house or subcontracted, and how many revision rounds are bundled account for most of the rest. Normalise by handing every studio the same script, the same deliverable list and the same revision count.

Should I hire a boutique studio or a large creative company?

Match the studio to the risk. A large collective with broadcast and title-sequence credits is the safer choice for a launch campaign where craft and reliability outweigh cost, and where several disciplines must run in parallel. A boutique of two to ten people usually gives you more senior attention per dollar and moves faster, which suits ongoing content programmes and startup launches. What matters more than headcount is whether their reel contains work resembling your brief rather than merely impressing you.

How long does a motion graphics project take?

A straightforward 60 to 90 second 2D explainer typically runs four to eight weeks: script and storyboard, style frames, animation, then sound and delivery. Add 3D, character rigging or heavy simulation and eight to sixteen weeks is realistic. The stage that slips is almost never animation — it is approval. Every extra stakeholder reviewing style frames adds days, so nominate one decision-maker and lock the storyboard before animation starts, because changes after that point are expensive by definition.

Is animation still worth the investment?

The demand signal is strong: 91% of businesses now use video as a marketing tool, 83% of video marketers say it directly increased sales, 93% report better brand awareness and 82% report more web traffic, while the global animation market sat at roughly $462 billion in 2025. Animation specifically earns its cost where filming is impractical — software, abstract services, invisible processes — and where one asset can be recut for many placements. Budget the recuts upfront; a single hero film with no derivative versions underperforms its own production value.

Choosing a Motion Graphics Agency

Write the brief before you collect quotes. Length, style, deliverable formats, revision rounds and who signs off should be on one page. Published averages for the same explainer span $600 to $250,000, and almost all of that spread is scope rather than talent, so an unspecified brief guarantees incomparable proposals.

Read the reel for your problem, not for craft. Everyone on this list can animate beautifully. What you are checking is whether they have solved something structurally similar — explaining software, applying motion to an identity system, delivering thirty ad variants on schedule. Ask which pieces they scripted themselves and which arrived pre-written.

Get revisions and ownership in writing. Two clauses cause most disputes: how many revision rounds are included and at what stage, and who owns the project files, fonts and licensed assets afterwards. Ask specifically for the source files if you expect to recut the work internally later.

Plan the derivatives before the hero. Decide upfront which cut-downs, aspect ratios and captioned versions the media plan needs, because building them alongside the master costs a fraction of returning for them. If you want animation made to perform in paid placements, see our performance creative work, read the latest analysis, or book a call.
