How we vet every listicle
Every agency featured on Web Tonic passes our 84-point editorial review before a single listicle goes live. This is how we vet each pick:
Verified client outcomes: We require real case studies with measurable KPIs — revenue, ROAS, CPA, retention — tied to the exact category being ranked. No cherry-picked wins, no unverifiable numbers.
Independent reputation: We cross-check Clutch, Google, G2, and Trustpilot ratings, and screen for review-bombing or suspicious patterns. Only operators with a consistent, verifiable track record make the cut.
Beyond that, every listing goes through a quarterly re-audit. We check 84 criteria across 6 pillars to make sure it still holds up — here are some of the checks we run:
A branding and brand identity agency decides what a company stands for and then builds the system that carries it: positioning and messaging, a name where one is needed, a logo and typographic and colour system, and the guidelines that keep it consistent across a website, packaging, signage and sales material. The deliverable is a system other people can apply, not a single logo file.

Every firm below was read on its own site rather than on a directory listing. Nineteen external agencies publish brand strategy, identity or rebranding work and food and beverage work in their own words, and nineteen of them publish a headquarters address across two countries.
What does a branding and brand identity agency do for food and beverage brands?
It sets the positioning, then builds the identity that carries it: naming where needed, logo, type and colour systems, messaging and the guidelines teams apply. Nineteen external agencies here publish food and beverage branding work, and each was read on its own site.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is packaging design the same thing as branding for a food or drink brand?
No, although the shelf is where the brand is judged. Packaging executes a position decided earlier: who the product is for, what it replaces, the price tier it claims. Studios that only do packaging will make a beautiful pack for an unclear position. Ask a candidate what strategy work sat in front of its last packaging project and who did it.
What does a food brand need to check before a redesign goes to print?
Regulated content: ingredient and allergen declarations, net weight placement, nutrition panels, country-specific labelling and any claim like organic or natural that has a legal definition. Printers do not check these. Ask a candidate who reviewed the regulated copy on its last food or beverage pack, and whether it has worked with your printer's dieline and substrate before.
What does a branding or brand identity project usually cost?
Fees arrive three ways: a fixed project price for a defined scope, a phased engagement where strategy is bought before design, and a retainer covering ongoing application once the system exists. The line buyers miss is rollout, because signage, packaging and a rebuilt site usually cost more than the identity did. On this page not one external firm here prints a fee figure. Ask what the fee covers, what rollout is excluded, and who owns the files.
Which of these agencies name a client I can verify?
Thirteen of the nineteen. Digital Surgeons names Freshpet and Lovesac, and PKG Brand Design names Jelly Belly and Sara Lee. The rest credit nobody on the pages we read, which is common when work is done under NDA or released under a client's own marketing team. Ask instead for three projects with the brief, the constraint and what changed after launch, plus a call with the person who approved the work. A portfolio that shows only finished logos is hiding the part you are buying.
Do I need a full rebrand or just a refresh?
A refresh keeps the name and equity and updates the system: type, colour, layout, photography and a rebuilt website. A rebrand changes what the company claims, and sometimes the name, which pulls in legal, signage and every third-party listing you appear on. Ask a candidate to argue for the smaller option first, and to say what evidence would justify the larger one.
Choosing a Branding Partner for Food and Beverage Brands
All nineteen external agencies listed publish brand strategy, identity or rebranding work alongside food and beverage work on their own sites, which is a lower bar than a system you can see applied. Treat this as a shortlist to interrogate, not a ranking of outcomes.
Thirteen credit a client you can check, and not one external firm here prints a fee figure. Compare what each agency actually delivers: the research behind the position, the naming, the identity system, the written guidelines and the mark itself.
Ask what happens after launch, in writing. Who applies the system to templates, packaging and signage, who arbitrates exceptions, and what it costs when a new team needs assets a year later — those answers separate a design supplier from a brand partner.
Whoever wins the brief, keep the source files, the fonts licence and the guidelines in your own name, because an identity you cannot hand to the next agency is a supplier you cannot leave. If you would rather have brand strategy and identity and the creative that runs on it handled by one accountable team, read our latest analysis.
