How we vet every listicle
Every agency featured on Web Tonic passes our 84-point editorial review before a single listicle goes live. This is how we vet each pick:
Verified client outcomes: We require real case studies with measurable KPIs — revenue, ROAS, CPA, retention — tied to the exact category being ranked. No cherry-picked wins, no unverifiable numbers.
Independent reputation: We cross-check Clutch, Google, G2, and Trustpilot ratings, and screen for review-bombing or suspicious patterns. Only operators with a consistent, verifiable track record make the cut.
Beyond that, every listing goes through a quarterly re-audit. We check 84 criteria across 6 pillars to make sure it still holds up — here are some of the checks we run:
A web design agency turns a business case into an interface and then into a working site: research, information architecture, visual and interaction design, front-end build, content migration, then accessibility and Core Web Vitals work. The design phase is the visible part; the build and migration are where budgets move.

Ten Berlin agencies cleared our evidence check, judged on what their own sites publish about design and build. Nine give a Berlin address, three name a verifiable client, and none publishes a rate.
Which Berlin web design agencies actually publish evidence of the work?
Ten external agencies cleared our evidence check and nine publish a Berlin address. Only three name a client we could verify on their own site, not one publishes a rate, and each sells web or interface design from a dedicated service page rather than as a footnote.
1. Web Tonic
About: Web Tonic treats a website as the place where demand converts, so information architecture, interface design and the build itself are planned next to the answer-engine and search foundations that decide whether anyone reaches the pages at all. Discovery, design, build, migration and support are quoted as separate lines rather than bundled into one figure, and the repository, design files and hosting accounts stay in the client's name. Frequently Asked Questions
Why do so few Berlin agencies publish prices?
Because scope drives the number and most agencies would rather anchor on value than on a day rate. Not one of the ten firms here publishes a figure. The workaround is to hand every shortlisted studio the same brief with a fixed template count, a fixed migration count and a named CMS, then compare the totals. Anything quoted as a lump sum with no breakdown will move once the content arrives.
Only three of ten name a client. Is that unusual for Germany?
It is common. German clients frequently sign confidentiality terms, and agencies default to anonymised case studies rather than logo walls. SOHO Creative Group names Withings and Simudyne, Studio Grau names Tchibo, and OGNO names Numaferm. For the rest, ask for two references you can call and one project you can walk through screen by screen, which tells you more than a logo grid anyway.
Nine of ten are Berlin firms. What about the tenth?
Digital030 Werbeagentur answers from Hohen Neuendorf, a Brandenburg town just north of the city limits and inside the Berlin commuter belt. That is the same market in practice, and we list it rather than dropping it quietly. Distance is only worth worrying about when discovery workshops and content migration sessions need people in one room, so ask who would actually attend those.
WordPress, Webflow or a headless build in Berlin?
It depends who maintains it. WordPress keeps hosting and developer options wide open, Webflow is fast to ship and easy for a marketing team to edit but ties you to one platform, and a headless build gives the most control and the highest ongoing developer cost. Ask each agency what happens if you leave: who holds the repository, the design files and the hosting account, and how content exports.
What does the German accessibility deadline change?
The Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz, Germany's implementation of the European Accessibility Act, applies to many consumer-facing digital services from June 2025. If you sell to consumers online, ask which standard the agency designs to, whether contrast, focus states and keyboard navigation are tested before build starts, and who signs the audit. Building it in during design costs a fraction of retrofitting it after launch.
Choosing a Web Design Agency in Berlin
Berlin's web design market is larger than this page, but only ten agencies published enough on their own sites to survive our evidence check, and nine of those answer from the city itself.
Three of ten name a verifiable client, which is normal for a market where confidentiality clauses are routine. Treat a published logo as a bonus, not as the deciding factor between two studios.
None of the ten publishes a rate. Fix the template count, the migration count and the CMS in your brief, send the identical document to every shortlisted agency, and compare the totals that come back.
The real question is who owns the site after launch. Repository, design files and hosting should be in your name from the first invoice. If you would rather buy a build tied to demand than a portfolio piece, our development team pairs it with answer-engine groundwork and growth marketing, and you can start a conversation here.
