How we vet every listicle
Every agency featured on Web Tonic passes our 84-point editorial review before a single listicle goes live. This is how we vet each pick:
Verified client outcomes: We require real case studies with measurable KPIs — revenue, ROAS, CPA, retention — tied to the exact category being ranked. No cherry-picked wins, no unverifiable numbers.
Independent reputation: We cross-check Clutch, Google, G2, and Trustpilot ratings, and screen for review-bombing or suspicious patterns. Only operators with a consistent, verifiable track record make the cut.
Beyond that, every listing goes through a quarterly re-audit. We check 84 criteria across 6 pillars to make sure it still holds up — here are some of the checks we run:
A graphic design agency creates and maintains a visual system: identity and logo, typography and colour, packaging and print, editorial and campaign artwork, digital templates, and the guidelines that let other teams apply all of it correctly.

Twenty-four Amsterdam studios cleared our evidence check, judged on what their own sites publish about design work rather than marketing in general. Twenty-one are Amsterdam companies, fifteen name a verifiable client, and none publishes a rate.
What should you ask an Amsterdam graphic design agency before you sign?
Ask how the identity is handed to developers. Twenty-four external studios cleared our check, twenty-one publish an Amsterdam head office, fifteen name a client on their own site, and none of the twenty-four publishes a rate.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should a brand identity be handed over to developers?
As something a build can consume, not a printed book. That means colour and type defined as named tokens, spacing and grid rules stated numerically, logo assets exported as optimised vector files, and states for interactive elements documented. Ask whether the studio delivers a component library and whether a developer sees the guidelines before they are finalised. This one question separates studios that have shipped products from those that have not.
Twenty-one of twenty-four are Amsterdam firms. Where are the rest?
Verve answers from The Hague, Norday from Rotterdam and G2K Brand Design Agency from Groningen. In a country this size that is an hour or two, not a barrier, and all three sell into Amsterdam accounts. It matters only for the parts of a project that need people in one room, so ask how many workshops and review sessions are in person and who pays for the travel.
Fifteen name clients. Which references stand out?
Van Lennep names the Wereld Museum and the National Holocaust Museum, DUTCH DESIGN AGENCY names Karl Lagerfeld and Rosewood Amsterdam, Brandium names Loop Earplugs and David Lloyd, Marking Amsterdam names Brooks Running, Verve names Miro and Bynder, and G2K names Forum Groningen and the Drents Museum. Cultural, retail and software references in one list tells you the bench here is genuinely mixed.
Do I need Dutch and English versions of everything?
Usually yes, and it is a design decision rather than a translation task. Dutch compound words run long and break tight lockups, headline grids and navigation labels. Ask the studio to typeset your real content in both languages during the design phase, and to state in the guidelines which language leads in which market, so nobody has to improvise a layout later on.
None of them publishes a price. How do I compare quotes?
Write one scope sheet and send it to everyone. List the identity deliverables, the exact applications, the number of revision rounds, the handover format and whether a component library is included. Then request a figure per line. Anything returned as a single project number is guesswork on both sides, and it is impossible to reduce later without reopening the entire conversation.
Choosing a Graphic Design Agency in Amsterdam
Decide where the identity has to live. A brand that mostly appears in software needs tokens and components, not a printed manual, and only some of these twenty-four studios work that way. Say so in the brief, because studios optimise for the medium you emphasise first.
Use the evidence on the page. Twenty-one publish an Amsterdam address and fifteen name a client, so ask the remaining nine for two references you can call in a company of similar size. Ask specifically whether the developers received something they could build from without redrawing it.
Plan for two languages from the start. Dutch and English typeset differently, and a lockup that only fits in English will be broken by your own marketing team within a month of launch. Set the real headlines in both languages during design and the problem disappears before it starts.
Use the consultation to test the handover: what reaches the build team, how it holds up in paid creative, and what gets measured in reporting.
